Symbols Inside

The Korean National Flag has many symbols in it, including the Tae Kuk in the middle and the trigrams at the corners. The stars and stripes of our American flag represent our 50 states and original 13 colonies. The symbols we choose should represent our values, such as balance, nature, and unity.

I wanted to imbue a logo for Good Wolf with many symbols. But before I share with you what I see in it, I'd like to hear from you. What do you see, and what, if anything, do you think it means? Please send me an email, and I'll share some of our collective thoughts in a follow-up post.

How It Was Created

To make our logo and patch, I worked with two people with great talents and immense patience.

Cayla Chow worked extensively with me on the design over several months. Thanks to her for exploring several wildly divergent concepts with me, then working together to the final piece. My breath still catches when I look at it!

And John Zerbe @ SewMarin worked closely with me to translate the design into embroidery form. Thanks to him for recognizing the concepts that Cayla and I crafted, and working on a digitization and color palette that expressed those concepts so well!

Patches are Here!

Speaking of embroidery, I am very happy to announce that our new studio logo patch is here! It is 11" in diameter and will fit perfectly on the back of your existing dobok.

I am standardizing on patches going forward because they are easy to inventory, don't require stockpiles of custom silkscreened uniforms, and are easily transferable to new doboks as student grow and/or wear out old uniforms. I chose embroidered patches because they are durable and look awesome!

For students who joined Good Wolf in 2024, the cost is $40 each, plus tax. I will send out invoices once students receive theirs. If you have any questions, as always, send me an email.
